Colombia, March 2014
Women in the remote region of Barbacaos, Colombia (in the Nariño Department), have gone on a sex strike, protesting over the poor condition of roads.
The movement, known as “crossed legs movement”, is the second such strike in two years.
The women refused to have sex with their partners until the road that connects their isolated town to the rest of the country is repaired.
The road is in such a bad condition that it takes up to 14 hours to reach the nearest hospital, and many people die along the way. Authorities have now started to reconstruct the road.
